The first Version represents the status of the project as of April 23, 2008. It was first opened on December 7, 2002 for in-house use, using a non public URL, accessible through a control protocol. The full structure of the website was already implemented at that date, and many of the pages had been written. But I was kept from completing the rest of the writing by the decision I made to complete first the work on the Urkesh Global Record. This is the most ambitious component of the website, and I felt it would be indispensable for a full fruition of the same. That it took so long is due to a number of reasons which are mentioned elsewhere. The majority of the entries for Version 1 have been prepared by Giorgio Buccellati, who also takes responsibility for finalizing the format, conceptual as well as technical. Several individual entries were prepared by Marilyn Kelly-Buccellati, Rick Hauser, Sophie Bonetti, Federico Buccellati. Federico Buccellati has served throughout the preparation period as the webmaster, in the specific sense that he has coordinated all the technical aspects, from the choice of providers and servers as well as the purchase of equipment to the technical definition of the system and contacts with interested parties. Fanxi Xu has worked especially on the finetuning of the overall setup, from the server hardware to the application of specific software aspects. Several undergraduate students have assisted in the preparation of the data, including David Choung, James Guo, Ann Tsueng. |
